Cruising Too
Long (from
Miss Inclined)
early
in our cruising
we
feared we'd run aground
we
never did
we
took such care with each little knew thing
over
time we grew less timid
confidence
we found
now
we run aground a lot
'cause
we know what we're doing
these
are the signs we've been cruising too long...
nothing
like experience to help you get it wrong
we've
been cruising far too long
If I Killed The
Captain (from
Mean Low Water)
...when
the prop has snagged a net
it's
me who's over the side
he
says, "now darling, change the zinc
while
you're down there for the ride"
I
hold my tongue, I look for strength
from
powers up above
for
patience is the better part
of
duty, honor, love
but
if I killed the captain
really,
who would know?
we're
two weeks out of port
we've
got one more week to go
and
all that it would take
is
a timely little shove
how
swift the course the heart may run
to
hatred from true love
true
love, true love...
Friends (from
Not To Be Used For Navigation)
I'm
counting up what I've got to show for all these years afloat
a
dog eared passport, a weathered face, a tired old boat
a
yarn or two that might be true and a couple of battle scars
days
of sparkling waters, nights of falling stars
I've
got seashells, I've got souvenirs, I've got songs I've penned
I've
got phographs, I've got memories, but mostly I've got friends
...
The
Anchoring Dance (from No
Significant Features)
guitar
players click here
...the
perfect little parking place is easy to find
all
you really gotta do is read his mind
if
what your honey wants is hard to tell
when
the hand signals fail you can always yell
grind
your teeth, shout till you're hoarse
there's
always one more step, you can file for divorce
no
better way to test a true romance
than
to do, do, do, do, do
do
the anchoring dance
ease
to starboard, then hard to port
throttle
down but you come up short
up
on the foredeck, see them prance
when
they do, do, do, do, do
do
the anchoring dance...
Gotta Regatta (from
Degrees Of Deviation)
...we're
slow even by corrected time
although
we're often near the front of the buffet line
takes
us a while to sail very far
but
we strike like lightning at an open bar
gotta,
gotta, gotta regatta...
to
the ones who are serious about the cup
all
I can say is "lighten up"
some
come to race, some to chew the fat
me,
I came for the t-shirt and the hat
gotta,
gotta, gotta regatta... |
